Shocks and Struts
You know if you need new shocks or struts if you notice any of the following:
- Wear on your shocks and struts: use your judgement to determine if the wear on your shocks is severe enough to cause damage.
- Leaking from your shocks and struts: look for oil or general wetness on the outside of the shock or strut
- Damage to your shocks and struts: check for a broken mount or dented housing.
- Your vehicle fails a "bounce test": Does your vehicle bounce excessively after hitting a bump or driving on rough roads? Does the nose of your vehicle dip when you hit the brakes? Does your vehicle sway excessively when driving in the crosswinds?
While you don't have to replace your shocks at a certain mileage like you would your spark plugs, or oil, but shocks and struts do wear out over time and need to be replaced.
